About the Sherman County Victims' Assistance Program
We are here to support anyone who is a victim of crime in Sherman County. A "victim," by our definition, is a person who has suffered financial, social, psychological, or physical harm as a result of a crime and, in the case of a homicide, is a member of the immediate family of the victim.
Our Mission Statement:
The mission of the Sherman County Victims' Assistance Program is to reduce the trauma of crime on victims' lives by providing comprehensive services which promote self-knowledge and healthy coping in a compassionate, respectful, and devoted manner. Advocates provide 100% confidential and free advocacy services, support in navigating the criminal justice system, and responsive assistance to enhance each victim's sense of security.
Services Provided (including but not limited to):
- Inform victims of their rights and help them to invoke and uphold those rights
- Notify victims of court hearings and case status
- Accompany victims to court during all stages of the criminal justice process
- Assist with requesting restitution and filling out the Crime Victims’ Compensation Program application
- Provide safety planning and referrals to community resources
- Assist victims whose protective orders have been violated.
